Any thoughts on fpga's used for mining these days with newer hardware available ,in comparison to gpu's. Of course Ravens algo switching would require more than one fpga. Maybe more like 16 who knows. Just trying to get a discussion going

Interesting thought.. 16 individual FPGAs with software to switch between them on algo switch ... Is that even possible?  If so, how could you protect against it?

Seems possible. But its definitly over my head. It may prove difficult to protect against aswell

I am considering getting a couple of fpga boards and let it hash x50 more efficient with 1/2 power consumption 😃

Yes. There is likely going to be enough economic incentive for FPGAs to be co-developed for independent hashing algorithms of other chains that coincide with the X16r algorithm. For example: blake, groestl, keccak, skein are already used in other proof-of-work based currencies, but it still remains to be seen if this is economically viable to develop. (Spoiler alert: it will be.)

That being said, it seems like the Ravencoin team is open to adding other hashing algorithms to X16r, as mentioned in the whitepaper.
